Matthew Allen, B.Sc, M.Sc, EPA


Matthew obtained a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London, and a Masters degree in Management of Intellectual Property Law, before joining one of the top UK firms of patent and trademark attorneys. Matthew is a registered European Patent Attorney, a UK Design and Trademark Attorney, and Member of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and runs his own practice as well as acting as a consultant to Ogive Intellectual Property Ltd.

Matthew deals with a wide range of mechanical engineering technology, and technology in neighbouring industries, including high performance brakes and clutches in the automotive industry, aircraft fuselage, wing and landing gear arrangements, and fuelling systems, in the aeronautical industry, mechanical inserts and fasteners, and fastener installation processes, advanced material applications, environmental technology, and consumer and household products. Matthew also has experience patenting medical products, and judges the Omnicompete Medical Technology Challenge.

Matthew has experience of numerous IP procedures, including hearings and patent revocation proceedings before the UK IP Office, interviewing an expert witness, preparing transfers of IP following a company acquisition and recording the new IP owner, dealing with IP infringers including negotiating cease and desist and settlements for clients, ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the European Patent Office, and opposition proceedings before the USPTO TTAB, and EUIPO.
